Valley City Fire Department Receives Improved Public Protection Classification Rating

 May 21, 2015

After an extensive survey and analysis, The Insurance Services Organization (ISO) has issued Valley City Fire Department a lower rating. The old classification was a Class 6 in the areas with fire hydrants and a Class 9 in the areas without fire hydrants. Effective August 1, 2015 the new rating is a Class 4/4Y. This is a significant change and should save the taxpayers money on their fire insurance premiums.

"Valley City Fire Department is proud to be in this very special group of fire departments. There are less than 6,200 fire departments in the entire Country that have a Class 4 rating. This shows the dedication of our staff and the professionalism of all the personnel on the department" said Chief Jack Petrone

The new classification takes into account all of the aspects of providing fire protection to the residents and businesses residing in Liverpool Township. Activities such as fire prevention, inspections, water supply, equipment, training and personnel are all taken into account and judged against a national standard. The fire department has been working for the last three years on improvements to their approach to prevention, preparation and protection.

“The Liverpool Twp. Trustees have supported the efforts to modernize the fire department with a goal of providing better service at a lower cost.” Said Chief Jack Petrone

According to ISO, by classifying communities' ability to suppress fires, ISO helps the communities evaluate their public fire-protection services. The program provides an objective, countrywide standard that helps fire departments in planning and budgeting for facilities, equipment, and training. And by securing lower fire insurance premiums for communities with better public protection, the PPC program provides incentives and rewards for communities that choose to improve their firefighting services.

According to Chief Jack Petrone “Each business and residence should contact their insurance agency and advise them of the new rating. This should have a positive impact on your premiums and save you money.”

Valley City Fire Department is a part time/ volunteer fire department located in northwest Medina County. Valley City Fire Department provides Fire Protection and Emergency Medical Services for Liverpool Twp., which is 25 square miles. The department consists of 38 dedicated members. Valley City Fire Department is staffed with two personnel from 6am-6pm seven days a week and has personnel on call from home from 6pm-6am.
